for the women filmmakers - a good friend of mine, esther robinson, got support from this to complete her first feature, 'a walk into the sea: danny williams and the warhol factory' which is a great friggin' film and also won best documentary at the berlin film festival a year or two back. she had good words about this...

Chicken & Egg Pictures is a hybrid film fund and non-profit production company dedicated to supporting women filmmakers who are as passionate about the craft of storytelling as they are about the social justice, environmental and human rights issues they’re embracing, translating and exploring on film. We match strategically timed financial support with rigorous, respectful and dynamic mentorship, creative collaboration and community-building to nurture women filmmakers whose diverse voices represent a range of lived experience and realities that have the power to change the world as we know it. Since founding in 2005, Chicken & Egg Pictures has provided approximately $1M in funding to over 50 women-made films. This open call is for non-fiction projects (unless otherwise solicited) - that are dedicated to progressive social change -- both short and feature length, "webisodes", animation, experimental and multiplatform new-media hybrids. We're always looking for eager interns to help us while we're in production of issues, working on our website and general office duties. We also offer opportunities to write stories, depending on your talent and assertiveness. Interns work a minimum of three days a week and should have a strong interest in journalism and film. Potential candidates should also have a strong knowledge of MS Office, HTML, FileMaker, InDesign and Photoshop. This is an unpaid internship but an unbelievable opportunity to get hands-on experience in magazine publishing as well as building contacts in the film industry. Applications for an eight month fellowship are now open to below-the-line entertainment professionals from communities underrepresented in the industry. Participants will receive ongoing one-on-one guidance from industry mentors, attend a monthly series of guest speakers and workshops, receive a job placement in their specified craft and enjoy networking opportunities provided by complimentary access to all of IFP’s programming. This pilot program, funded by the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting through the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, seeks to promote diversity in entertainment workforce by working with New Yorkers representing an inclusive range of race, gender, ethnicity, and physical ability to ensure growth and long-term fulfilling retention in the industry. This program is facilitated by the nonprofit Independent Filmmaker Project, the nation's oldest and largest organization of independent filmmakers, and also the premier advocate for them.
